Project Number 61: Puerto Princesa Exposition Center for Natural History Revisited

During the tenure of former mayor Edward S. Hagedorn, JDSM was commissioned to do a study to make the Baywalk area of the city useful for public good. The concept was to not sequester usable open park space of the people by planting a structure that will mar the view, and limit leisurely mobility; hence, the decision to use the roof as a park and let the public climb the slow ascent of the center and view Honda Bay from that perch. The goal is to make the building as “invisible” as possible. The project portfolio was crafted under the PPP system of the national government back then. While the project was not constructed as the administrations changed during the previous elections, it remains on the table as a viable public engagement solution for the city.

When the pandemic is finished, and a new way of living is demanded of us, we would see the value of urban open space in our collective well being.
